The village is situated at an altitude of 400m. in a beautiful pine landscape on the national road Chalkis-Artemisium.   The natural environment of the region grandparents regarded as one of the most beautiful of our country. History

Δύο εκδοχές υπάρχουν για την προέλευση της ονομασίας του χωριού Παππάδες. Σύμφωνα με την πρώτη, το χωριό πήρε το όνομά του από πρόσφυγες που πήγαν εκεί για να αποφύγουν την τουρκική καταπίεση από τους Παπάδες της Λέσβου. Σύμφωνα με τη δεύτερη εκδοχή η ονομασία οφείλεται στους μοναχούς της Μονής Ξηροποτάμου του Αγ. Όρους της οποίας ιδιοκτησία ήταν η περιοχή. Οι κάτοικοι των γύρω χωριών χρησιμοποιούσαν τη φράση «πάμε στους παπάδες» κι έτσι έμεινε το όνομα στο χωριό.
