The building was built and used as a tomb prominent Roman official (procurator), who eikonisthike medal in the pediment. Maybe responsibilities included the supervision of Roman quarries north of Karystos. Initial investigations (excavations in 1908) had designated the building as a temple of a deity (Apollo, Artemis and Hephaestus).   This is a peristyle, almost square, temple-like structure made of marble (white, Pentelic and faiolefko Karystos cipollino) excellent quality. The outer dimensions are 13.20 meters x 12.30 meters surrounded by a 7 x 6 Ionic columns. Based on five-point scale, which survives in part. Includes nave, which, like the whole mausoleum is at the south entrance, facing the harbor. A stage runs around the nave. On this would have placed the sarcophagi. The pediment of the building were decorated with a bust of the deceased along with a horse, a circular medallion (imago clipeata). Dated at andrianeia - antonineia period (mid 2nd century AD)   The Roman mausoleum was excavated in 1908 by G. Papavassiliou and 1962 (Official Gazette 64 / N / 05.28.1962) the room was expropriated in favor of the Greek government.
