Folklore Museum of Chalkis

 

The Folklore Museum Chalcis founded in 1981 by the Society for Euboean Studies and the Municipality of Chalkis. It is housed in three rooms that were left from the historic castle Negroponte during the Franks or Egrimpoz by the Turks. It houses more than 1,200 exhibits, valuable works of the hands of the people of Euboea. Objects of everyday work and furniture of our ancestors who have disappeared or will disappear with the rapid spread of nylon, plastics and manufactured products in general.   In the first room of the costume, the visitor can admire costumes from North, Central, South Evia and Skyros. Elaborate embroidery, images and offerings that reveal the deep religious feeling of the people of Evian.   In the second room shows a neighborhood of Chalcis with middle-class home of the principles of the 20th century, the basic premises and furniture that adorned. Even some laboratories in the city.   In the third room displayed scenes from rural life. The farmer, the shepherd, the beekeeper, the weaver, come alive through the utensils and tools used. Still can admire his home village with the furniture and utensils, the courtyard with the well trough for washing etc. Everything in the museum are worth admiration, love and care because we are valuable as evidence of the evolution of our popular culture.   Source: Folk Museum of Chalkis
