Δήμος Κονιστρών

Headquarters of the Municipality Konistron and commercial center of the region with a population of 824 inhabitants. They took their name from the word "arena" means wrestling, track where races are held, which comes from the word powder (powder) The word "arena" occurs also as one of the many adjectives that have the Virgin Mary. Professor of Philosophy at the University / University of Athens, the seat of Byzantine Studies, Nicholas Tomadakis in his book "Kleis of Byzantine Literature" (Vol. I, version c, Athens 1965) referring to the epithets with which call Hymnology, pictorial and names "Panagia" mentions the adjective "Konistra" that is "Panagia Konistra." Κτίζεται στο τέλος της βυζαντικής περιόδου από τους κατοίκους του λεκανοπεδίου Μονοδρίου – Οξυλίθου, που διασώθηκαν από τις ληστρικές επιδρομές των Αγαρηνών πειρατών του 8ου, 9ου και 10ου αιώνα. Οι Κονίστρες ανέπτυξαν μεγάλη δραστηριότητα κατά την επανάσταση του 1821. Πατρίδα του ιατροφιλοσόφου, Γεωργίου Κονίστρου - Χρυσοχόου, επιφανούς μέλους της Φιλικής Εταιρείας, που συμμετείχε στην Εθνοσυνέλευση της Επιδαύρου και συνέβαλε ουσιαστικά στον Εθνικό Αγώνα.
